Teach The Science Of Electroplating
Caswell Science Plating Kits
Acid Copper Plating System
Electroplating is an interesting and exciting science experiment for kids and adults alike. Invented in the early 1800's, electroplating covers science fundamentals such as chemistry, electricity and mathematics.
Our Science Plating Kits support NGSS standards at the Grade Five level in the "Matter and Its Interactions" topic, as well as many others.
Our Acid Copper Science Plating Kit can be used to plate copper over nickel, tin, gold, silver, brass, copper and bronze, as well as plating over non-conductive items that have had a conductive coating applied. It can also be used to electroform parts.
Our Acid Copper Science Plating Kit contains:
- 1 x One Pint Plastic Beaker
- One Pint Acid Copper Plating Solution
- Two Copper Anodes
- 4.5V, 300ma DC Power Supply
- All required wires
- Wooden Tank Bar
- Bare Copper Wire To Hang Parts
- Instruction Sheet
In addition to our kit, you will need:
- Nitrile or Latex Gloves
- Eye Protection
- Beaker of Water for rinsing
- Cleaning agent (we recommend dish soap and hot water or Simple Green cleaner)
The kit can be used multiple times. The anodes will eventually be used up (after approx 10 sq ft of plating), and can be replaced.
The Acid Copper Plating Solution contains a small amount of sulfuric acid (approx 1% acid) and is quite safe to use. No fume control or face masks are required for use.
SDS will be sent with the kit.
To plate copper over other metals, such as Steel, Iron, Zinc or Pot Metal, use our Flash Copper Plating system.
This kit can only be shipped by Ground within the Lower 48 US States.
Recommended Skill Level
Beginner level products can and should be used by anybody, including those who consider themselves not crafty, handy or hands on. Most beginner level products can be used out of the box and can expect results within minutes. It is always important to read the product instructions and description on the web site before use, for example, nearly all of our plating kits require a polished and clean surface before plating.
