Before & After
How To Use:
Step One: In a container, pour a sufficient amount of EVAPO-RUST™ to completely cover the rusted object. | |
Step Two: | |
Step Three: | |
Step Four: Heavy rust removed in six hours at room temperature |
EVAPO-RUST™ works through selective chelation. This is a process in which a large synthetic molecule forms a bond with metals and holds them in solution. Most chelating agents bind many different metals. The active ingredient in EVAPO-RUST™ bonds to iron exclusively. It can remove iron from iron oxide but is too weak to remove iron from steel where the iron is held much more strongly. Once the chelating agent has removed the iron, a sulfur bearing organic molecule pulls the iron away from the chelator and forms a ferric sulfate complex which remains water soluble. This frees the chelating agent to remove more iron from rust.
For best results, bath temperature should be 60°F or higher. One gallon of Evapo-Rust will de-rust up to 300 lbs of moderately rusted steel.
Evapo-Rust is highly recommended by the NRA Gunsmithing School and will remove blueing, browning, zinc phosphate, zinc plating and cadmium plating in approximately 30 minutes. It will not harm solder points or lead and preps the surface for refinishing like no other product.

Great product
Evapo-Rust works really good if it sets overnight, plus it can be dumped down the drain when finished.

Great Product, Highly recommended!
I used this to remove rust on a number of small parts from a truck I was building. Some of the lightly rusted parts came out looking like fresh stapings after only a few minutes. All the bolts I did came out looking like new. I only wish I could afford enough to fill a small kiddie pool to do some larger body panels....

Another Great Product
Have been using Evaporust for some time now and all I can say is, it WORKS.

Wouldn't use anything else!!!
I use Evapo-Rust Rust Remover to remove light to moderate and sometimes heavily rusted tools and steel parts. Works great removing rust, old blueing, chemical blackening and prepares for re-treating. I just place items and cover with Evapo-Rust, agitate occasionally, and when necessary leave overnight. Filter the used solution thru a coffee filter, and let sit in a closed container for a few days then pour off the clear top layer for reuse till it seems to slow down and takes too long to do the job. Works great! Wouldn't use anything else!!!

Great stuff! But you still need to work with it.
I had a very rusty motorcycle fuel tank that was so bad the engine was hydraulic locking (from leaking needle valves) every time I tried to start it. It took about a week to treat the entire 6 gallon tank with 1 gallon of Evapo-Rust. Eventually I drained the tank and found the inside was now covered in loose iron deposits that used to be rust deposits. It took several hours of shaking with a handful of drywall screws to get all the loose stuff off the inside of the tank (you can also use a very well-padded cement mixer if you have one, I didn't). I was able to get all the bits of loose iron (and all but one of the drywall screws :-)) out with washing with a hose, then I dried the inside of the tank with a couple of alcohol rinses and some warm air from a hot air gun. Then I treated with an Evapo-Rust rinse to prep the surface for coating. The Evapo-Rust worked really well, much better than citric acid, with no risk to the steel of the tank. I can't recommend it highly enough. Just be aware you have to get the loose deposits off and that's a lot of work. And it would be nice if the solution could be shipped as a dry powder, paying to ship a gallon of water is not real good, especially if you want it on the other side of the world.
