Our NEW formula gives more consistent, brighter zinc plating, much faster plating times and better chromating results.
Now, Copy Cad® AND Zinc plating in one kit. By simply adding a special brightener to the solution, the normally dull, flat, whitish look of Copy Cad® is transformed into a commercial quality bright zinc plate. After use, the bath reverts back to the original Cadmium look.
This simple system is designed to give professional results without a complicated 'chemistry set'. The kit comes with an Abrasive wheel which provides a 'flat' finish to the metal for Copy Cad® .
These kits are designed to provide a professional zinc finish to a variety of substrates on small components such as workshop tools, brake boosters, brackets and zinc alloy carburetor castings.
Zinc plating is a most valuable tool when used in combating corrosion of steel. The zinc corrodes before the steel does, sacrificing itself for the benefit of the steel. A metallurgical bond is formed between the zinc and steel forming an iron rich alloy with tenacious bond. Galvanizing can be left unpainted where it will form its own protective oxide layer.
The system operates at 110 deg F, and 0.14 amps per square inch of part surface area. A 20 minute plating time is sufficient for most applications, including chromating.
After zinc plating, parts can be dipped in a variety of chromates to give color and increased corrosion resistance.

Recommended Skill Level
Beginner level products can and should be used by anybody, including those who consider themselves not crafty, handy or hands on. Most beginner level products can be used out of the box and can expect results within minutes. It is always important to read the product instructions and description on the web site before use, for example, nearly all of our plating kits require a polished and clean surface before plating.

Fantastic for the Do-It-Yourselfer
First time buyer and first time car restorer needing to plate an entire car's worth of hardware (bolts, nuts, washers, brackets, etc). This kit is perfect for all of those tiny, small, and medium sized parts. The kit comes with the plating guide that explains it all. You'll need to buy the chromates separately if you plan on those, as well as an electric rectifier (I went with the Caswell 5 Amp model), a $30 fish tank heater, a $20 crockpot for heating the degreaser, some HDPE buckets (at Lowe's/HD) for the various washes and chromates (this kit comes with 2 buckets), some distilled water, and some copper wire and a copper pipe. I'd recommend also buying the Caswell plating leads for the rectifier. These guys seem to have it all. Be sure to watch the videos here on the website as well as on YouTube for the entire process. Great Kit
This kit makes it so easy to jump right in and start plating in a matter of an hour. I had an understanding of plating from way back in 6th grade elementary school. I plated steel key with copper for the class and amazed my teacher and classmates. Now some 45 years later I'm the one that is amazed. There is plenty of information in the provided handbook to setup and troubleshoot problems. Of course having an immediate success is a real confidence builder. Other materials are great and not as toxic smelling as I first thought.
