The real Seawolf used a Low Pressure Blower and as soon as it reached periscope depth, it would suck in air to finish off blowing the ballast tanks. The Snort System reproduces that idea giving the operator a real-time feel for the boat operation.
If operating in a ‘safe’ area where recovery is easy, the boat can be operated with no gas on board, as this system is now relegated to emergency ‘fail-safe only’ operation.

The boat is trimmed to have the Snort induction tube just out of the water when the ballast tanks are full of water. Deeper diving is achieved by use of dive-planes and boat speed.
